History of The Mazda RX-7 FB Elford Turbo - Extract
In 1979, Mazda released the Mazda RX7 sportscar within the UK. The car had previously been released in the United States in May 1978 and had been a sensation. Dealers sold out, waiting lists were huge and the Americans loved it.
The UK spec car carried most of the US emission control equipment that Mazda UK was too lazy to remove and this sapped the power of the car quite considerably.
It was soon discovered that the chassis and handling was capable of much more power than the mediocre 115bhp that the standard car produced and several tuners and performance part specialists started to produce performance parts for the RX7.
